Mildred Gusler

November 20, 1915 — April 1, 2018

Mildred E. Gusler, 102, formerly of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 1, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday at Hillside Christian Church, West Campus, 6100 S. Soncy with Pastor Mike Nuthman officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Mildred was born November 20, 1915 in Dallas to Frank M. and Lucille Jackson Scroggins. She graduated from Marshall High School "Class of 1933". She married James H. Wilson, Jr. in 1936. They lived in Tyler, TX where their son James H. (Jim) Wilson, III was born. Later, she married Paul S. Gusler in 1946. They lived in Amarillo and had one daughter, Paula Elaine Gusler. Mildred worked in retail and retired from Montgomery Ward as a Department Manager. Mildred was very involved in church life over the years. She was a member of West Amarillo Christian Church, Paramount Terrace Christian Church, and Hillside Christian Church. She was involved in the Berian Circle at Paramount Terrace, the Lamplighter's Sunday school class and worked in the church library. Mildred had many hobbies throughout her life, including travelling, quilting (made more than 40 quilts after retiring) and crafts. She also enjoyed playing card games with friends and spending time with her family and grandkids. She and Paul attended many WW2 submarine veteran reunions. Mildred adored all her beloved dogs she had throughout the years. She relocated to Lynchburg, VA in 2014 to be close to her son, Jim. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister; her husband, Paul S. Gusler; her daughter, Paula Gusler Lathem Day. Survivors include her son, James H. (Jim) Wilson, III and wife Linda McGovern; seven grandchildren, Todd Wilson and wife Jackie, Laina Storlie and husband Glenn, Christie Mastrippolito and husband Tim, Jamey Green, Josh Wilson and wife Cheryl, Lesley Lathem and her fiancé Kyle McLain, and Lt. Col. Mark T. McGovern, USA Ret. and wife Monique; 14 great-grandchildren, David Storlie and wife Traci, Alyssa Woodward and husband Jonathan, Shelby Wilson and fiancé Chris Gardner, Ella Wilson, Sam Wilson, Emily Wilson, Trevor Green, Alexis Roark Roten and husband Alex, Ashley Roark, Kyley McLain, Dean Thomas McLain, Keanan McLain, Mia Katherine McGovern, and Matthew McGovern; ten great-great-grandchildren.
