Milton "Mac" Mcneely

April 8, 1948 — February 13, 2024

Amarillo

Milton “Mac” McNeely, 75, of Amarillo, TX, went home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. A celebration of life will be held at Coulter Road Baptist Church on March 2, 2024 at 11 a.m. Milton was born on July 8, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas. Some of his most cherished childhood memories were of times spent with his Grandaddy and Granny. Even as a mischievous young boy, Milton had an entrepreneurial spirit. When he wasn’t working in his father’s candy shop or loan office, he attempted many business ventures. He developed a love for learning, reading and chess. Milton frequently joked that he dodged the draft by joining the United States Marine Corps. He was a very proud American who was honored to have served his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1970. Milton served with the Bravo Company (B-1-26) during the seventy-seven day siege at Khe Sahn. During his service, Milton earned the rank of sergeant and received several medals including a Purple Heart. After his discharge, Milton further pursued his passion for business. He later started his own finance company and furniture store, with the guidance and encouragement of his stepfather. Milton was a patriot who strongly believed in and pursued active political involvement. In 2017, he was recognized by his industry with a Distinguished Service Award for lobbying legislators on behalf of their professional organization. Later in life, Milton committed his life to following Jesus Christ and became very involved in the ministry of the local church. He found a new passion in studying God’s word, sharing the gospel with children and youth, and would offer to pray with anyone who would express a need. Milton will be remembered for his impeccable dress, dry sense of humor, witty banter, growing curiosity that kept Siri busy, and love for deep intellectual conversations about faith, politics, or the next “big idea” or  business venture. Most importantly, he will be missed for his integrity, kindness, generosity, love, support and advice by those who loved him. Milton was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 25 years, Charlotte McNeely, his father Edmund McNeely and his stepfather and mother, Ed and Willaphene Fletcher. Survivors include his son Gene McNeely; his daughter Kara Green and her husband Todd; his three grandchildren Landon Green, Cason Green and McKenna Green, to whom he was affectionately known as “Grandaddy Grinch”; his “sunshine” Pam Reed, who stayed by his side until his passing; his siblings Velvet McCurry, Kathy Fletcher and Greg Lopez, Carlton and Pam Fletcher and Lenny Monson; nieces and nephews; and many others who looked to him as a father or mentor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Prairie View Baptist Chapel, Coulter Road Baptist Church, Child Evangelism Fellowship or any Christian organization of your choosing.
