Minnie Lee Jackson Horrell, 81, longtime servant of the Lord, joined Him on March 7, 2015.
Minnie was born on Feb. 25, 1934 in Montague County, to Sam an Ilene Jackson. Minnie grew up in Memphis, TX, and later attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX, where she met, and fell in love with Gherald Horrell. They were married in Memphis, TX on July 3, 1952 at the First Baptist Church.
Minnie and her husband of 53 years, Gherald, enjoyed sharing the love of Jesus through puppet ministry, mission trips, and church building projects. Minnie was involved in numerous activities in the community. She was a foster parent, and served as the "Social Director" for the Senior Citizen's, "Fun Bunch". She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for 63 years and was an active member in the Senior Adult Choir, taught Sunday school for multiple age groups, was a youth counselor, and a puppeteer. She made puppets and shared them with the people of Brazil on many of the mission trips. She was also the director and organizer of many "Cousins Week" adventures for the grandchildren. Minnie worked with Special Ed children from all over the panhandle, and was an aid at the Amarillo Speech and Hearing Center involved in deaf education.
Minnie is survived by Four children, Son Steve and wife Tonja, of Hereford, TX, Son Tim and wife Sharon of Amarillo, Daughter Vickie Saunders and husband Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA, and Son Kent and wife Annette of Amarillo, 24 grandchildren, and 19 Great-grandchildren. Her sister Teresa Hale and husband Richard of Borger, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Ilene Jackson, her husband Gherald, a granddaughter Joy Lunn Horrell, and her sister Jo Ellen Jackson.
Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega, TX.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at First Baptist Church with Corky Holland officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo, or the First Baptist Church Mission fund.
