Nancy Hayes-Gafford walked into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 FM 1541, with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.
Nancy was born March 24, 1950 in Carrollton Missouri to David and Dorothy Hayes. She lived most of her life in Lubbock, Texas until moving to Amarillo in 2011. She married Michael Gafford on July 16, 1999 in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2013. She attended Cisco Junior College, graduating in February 1985 with a degree in Nursing.
Nancy worked in Lubbock and Amarillo area hospitals, home health and hospice care. She retired from Lubbock Veterans Outpatient Clinic in 2000, and continued working as a hospice nurse until 2011. Nancy was a lifetime member of disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Through the years, she worked in the church on various committees, including church hostess, kitchen ministry, nursery ministry, and GA leader.
She was also provided a foster home for many years and volunteered with CASA, working with foster children in the court system.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, Freddie Shelton.
Survivors include her stepson, Danny Reid (Cathy) of Lubbock; her son, Trever Shelton (Georgia) of Lubbock; two sisters, Neva Dorman (Leroy) of Shallowater, and Debbie Ford (Roger) of Lubbock; two cousins, Valorie Hayes of Brookfield, MO and Phyllis Lucas (Sam) of Clinton, MO; four grandchildren, Elaina Shelton, Hagen Smith, Brady Shelton (Ely), and Harley Shelton; and three great-grandchildren.
