Nell Langford

March 1, 1934 — September 5, 2017

Mrs. Langford was born March 1, 1934 in Dodson, Texas to Thomas and Francis Underwood. She graduated from Dodson High School as the valedictorian of her class. She married John Langford in 1953 at Wellington, and the couple moved to Amarillo. Nell was a partner and a designer at Charles Hughes Accents. She was a very religious person. She dedicated her life to the study of scripture. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Amarillo, and was the first reader of the church when it was established in Amarillo. Nell was one of the founders of the Lake Tanglewood Library, and was also a volunteer librarian at Sundown Elementary School. She was a special Nana to all her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband John Langford of Lake Tanglewood; a daughter, Liz Walker of Lake Tanglewood; a son, Steve Langford and wife Jeanne of Hereford; two sisters, Georgia Simmons and husband Bill Leonard, and Maude Barefoot all of Amarillo; a brother, William Underwood and wife Glyndel of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Nell was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and two brothers. The family suggests memorials be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 2701 Julian Blvd. Amarillo, TX 79102.
