Neoma LaVerne Ewing, 103, of Amarillo went to the arms of Jesus on February 19, 2025. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday March 1, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Pastor Cody Allen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
LaVerne was born March 5, 1921 in Foard County, Texas to Jeff Boyd and Bessie Meek Boyd. She was married to Albert Charles Ewing in Hobbs, New Mexico on July 9, 1939. They had more than 70 short years together before his passing. In her early life she lived in several places in the Texas Panhandle and even attended a school on the 6666 Ranch. LaVerne attended high school in Amarillo and finished her senior year in Hobbs, New Mexico. That’s where she met her future husband Albert. She is a part of the “Greatest Generation” supporting her family while her husband worked for Boeing, building the B29 Bomber. Then again later when he was drafted into the Army Air Corp as an instructor of the weapons systems on the B29. Sacrificing as all Americans did during that time to help with defeating the Japanese and Nazis.
One of her greatest bits of wisdom given to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was on her 100th birthday. One of her great-grandchildren asked how do you get to be 100 years old and her response was: “Make good choices every day.”
LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her son, James; her parents; and her five siblings, Margaret, J.D., Bobby, Daisy and Barbara.
Survivors include by her daughter, Betty Moore and husband Bill of Amarillo; her 7 grandchildren; Rodney Moore and wife Kay, Stan Moore and wife Debbie, Brent Moore and wife Corinne, Kent Ewing and wife Terri, Dana Ewing, Cori Sharp and husband Zac, and Bobby Ewing and wife Janalyn; her 20 great-grandchildren and her 9 great-great-grandchildren.
