Nettie Watson

Nettie Watson, 84, of Amarillo, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday at Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St. with Pastor Travis Bennett and Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Nettie was born September 19, 1933 in Junction to Jack and Mattie Sykes. She graduated from Junction High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Watson, on February 22, 1951. Jim and Nettie lived in Tucumcari for over 20 years. While there, Nettie worked at city hall and the elementary school. In 1989, they moved back to Junction, where Nettie worked at the library, the auction ring, and the local mercantile store. They moved to Amarillo in 2012 to be closer to family. Nettie was a longtime member of Methodist Churches throughout her adult life; most recently, Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. Nettie loved life. She was a talented pianist, who loved music. She also enjoyed deer hunting. She was the past president of Beta Sigma Phi in Tucumcari. Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Mary Boone and Betty Evans. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Jim Watson of Amarillo; a son, Jimmy Watson and wife Stella of Tucumcari, NM; three daughters, Jody Barnes and husband Mike of Tucumcari, Becky Darnell and husband Johnny of Amarillo, and Toni Balch and husband Jeff of Lewisville; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
