Norma Lee Carruth, age 94, of Amarillo/Canyon died Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Norma was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Kansas City, MO, to Johnny & Geraldine Durrett; raised in Amarillo; a 1949 graduate of Amarillo High School; and graduated from Amarillo College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Chi & Dean’s Honor Society.
Norma married Paige Carruth on Aug. 15, 1952, & together they raised 5 children. While Paige was working at WTSU, Norma supported him & was a member of the University Study Club & a WT Faculty Wives officer. She was active in Canyon Methodist Church, Polk Street Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, & many causes in Canyon for over 30 years. She played a supporting role to Paige in Rotary for over 50 years. She helped Paige in founding Canyon Tire Company & Carruth Construction, where she oversaw job sites in Canyon, Angel Fire, Amarillo, & the Bushland Eagle Tree area.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband in June 2019 and sons Joe Carruth & Tom Carruth—both of Canyon.
She is survived by son Alan & wife Barbara of Flower Mound, daughter Jerri & husband Paul Thomas of Amarillo, daughter Melissa Carruth of Amarillo, 5 grandchildren—Stephanie Carruth of Lewisville, Alicia Basmajian & husband Steve of Dallas, Logan Thomas of Amarillo, Deidre Schlabs & husband Stefan of Chattanooga, and Cortnie Buchel & husband Josh of Chicago—5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews.
