Frank Prentice Wrather, 76, of Amarillo passed away: Friday, August 2nd 2019. He was born June 14, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas. Frank’s parents were John Prentice (J.P.) Wrather and Loraine (Wim) Reeves Wrather. He had two older sisters: Janene Hawkins and June McGinnis. Frank and his first sweetheart, Yolanda, were married for 13 years. He later married the love of his life, Gloria, and they were together from 1986 until her death in 2006. Frank attended Amarillo High School and West Texas University. He was in the United States Army Reserves for 6 years. He worked at Owens Corning in Amarillo from 1979 until he retired in 2008. Frank enjoyed playing baseball in school, was an umpire for many years, and loved to attend Amarillo Sod Poodles Games and Amarillo Venom games. He cared for his beloved dog “Bichon” and his two cats he named “Kitty” and “Cat”. Frank was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
Survivors include niece Becky Childers and husband Tripps of Perryton. Two nephews: Russell Hawkins and wife Kathy of Amarillo and Mark McGinnis and wife Chris of Warrens, WI., a great niece Shea Short of Amarillo, and a great nephew Wrather McGinnis of San Angelo, Gloria’s children Adrienne Baker of Amarillo, TX and Lonnie Granado of Amarillo, and his good friend Danny Wright of Amarillo. Frank was preceded in death by parents J.P and Loraine Wrather, wife Gloria Wrather, Sisters Janene Hawkins and June McGinnis, a nephew Mike McGinnis and Gloria’s daughter, Julie Granado.
Funeral service will be at Cox Funeral Home on Monday, August 12th at 2:00pm.
