Herman Hill Obituary

Herman “Ray” Hill was born in Clarendon, TX (or the cotton patch as he liked to call it) and spent his early childhood there and in McLean TX, before moving to Amarillo in 1953.  He attended Horace Mann Jr. High and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1957.  He married the love of his life, Patsy Hill, on December 21, 1956.  Ray worked hard all of his life.  At an early age he picked cotton, in high school he worked at a grocery store, and later he busted flats and drove trucks for his uncle.  In the late 1950s, he was accepted into the IBEW electrical apprentice program and became a journeyman electrician.  He became a local union leader and served as an international representative until his retirement January 1, 2002.  Ray was a 60 year member of the IBEW and was always a champion for the working man. His final days were spent attending the yearly IBEW Progress Meeting and seeing all of his old buddies, which was always a highlight for him.  Since his retirement the light of his life was spending time with his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Pat, his mother and father, Herman and Inez, and his brother, Jim.  He is survived by his sons, Allen and wife Di Ann, Barry and wife Teresa; his four grandchildren, Patrick and wife Hannah, Danny and wife Cherry, Erin, and Katie; and 8 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the IBEW personnel and the staff of Nix Hospital in San Antonio who took care of him at the end. The family requests donations to “Papa’s” charities in lieu of flowers, including: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, 1-800-822-6344 https://www.stjude.org/ways-to-give
