Jerry Hayes Obituary

Jerry Dale Hayes, 73, of Amarillo, died Saturday, October 27, 2018. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Pathpoint Fellowship Church, 6215 Canyon Dr. with Pastors Scott Johnson and Joe Prestwood officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3:30 pm Friday at Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Jerry was born August 14, 1945 in Burkburnett to Jewel and JoDean Hayes. He graduated from Big Pasture High School in Randlett, Okla. He earned his bachelor degree in business administration at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He earned his master’s degree in business administration and accounting at West Texas State University. He married Sherlene Whatley in 1966 at Burkburnett. Jerry owned American Brokerage Company. He was a member of the National Cottonseed Products Association, Texas Grain and Feed Association, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, and the Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. He was past president of and member of the Panhandle Grain and Feed Association. He was also past president and co-founder of the Cottonseed and Feed Association. Jerry was a longtime active member of Pathpoint Fellowship Church, where he served as a director. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed playing golf, boating at the lake, water skiing, and snow skiing. He was an avid OU Football fan. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family, especially attending his grandkids' sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Skeeter and Dortha Whatley; and a son-in-law, Kyle Burt. Survivors include his wife, Sherlene Hayes; three daughters, Stephanie Swindell and husband Victor, Lisa Hayes-Burt all of Amarillo, and Amber McGurren and husband Marc of Ft. Worth; a son, Austin Hayes and wife Jeanna of Vega; three sisters, Judy Gent and Charlie Cherry of Grandfield, OK, Linda Barbour and husband Ken of Waurika, OK, and Vickie Bradford and husband Robert of Mineral Wells; a brother, Tim Hayes and wife Sabrina of Randlett, OK; eight grandchildren, Shelby, Sawyer and husband Keaton, Justin, Maci, Daelee, Hayes, Andie, and Ridley; and his beloved dog, Baker Mayfield Hayes. The family suggests memorials be made to Pathpoint Fellowship Church, 6215 Canyon Dr. Amarillo, TX 79110.
