Lightnin McDuff, Texas Panhandle's legendary sculptor, passed from this life September 13, 2018. A Celebration of Life event will be held on Saturday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, 2301 N. Soncy in Amarillo. Cremation was entrusted to Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Amarillo, TX. Lightnin was born January 10, 1949 to J. Wesley Thomas Jr. and Betty McDuff Thomas in Plainview, TX. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in Amarillo and attended Lee Junior College and West Texas State University. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Debby Carey on August, 15 1992. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Travis Thomas and his mother Betty Thomas, His grandparents Ralph and Mazel McDuff and John Wesley and Clara Thomas. Lightnin is survived by his wife, Debby Carey, and his #1 daughter April Carey of Amarillo, his #1 son Matthew Thomas of Dallas, his father Wesley Thomas, a brother John Thomas III and wife Beckye and a granddaughter, Olivia Thomas, all of Amarillo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Wildcat Bluff, 2301 N. Soncy Amarillo, TX 79124 or Amarillo Humane Society 3501 S. Osage Amarillo, TX 79118.
