Patsy Cox Obituary

Patsy Jean Beard Cox, 79, of Leander, was born on August 3, 1939 and went peacefully to be with Jesus in the presence of her family on July 25, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Dr. with Chaplain Jeff Messer officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Patsy was born in Trinidad, Colorado to Clarence and Edith Beard. She graduated from Canyon High School and attended Dakota Westland University in Mitchell, South Dakota. She was blessed with two daughters, Jayne Stouse and Rhonda Robertson, from her marriage to Gary Cox. Gary and she remained close and shared many holidays and special occasions together with their family. She most recently resided with her daughters and their families in Austin, TX. Patsy worked in the medical field as a lab supervisor when she lived in South Dakota. She also served as an assistant to the Potter County Pathologist as well as working with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office in Amarillo. Upon moving to Austin she became very involved with her church where she was loved by so many. Patsy loved to travel and one of her favorite trips was going to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River and walked in the footsteps of Jesus. She also enjoyed reminiscing about her trip to Germany to see the Oberammergau Passion Play, the Alaskan cruise with her family, as well as her trip to Arkansas to see The Great Passion Play with Starla, and her trips to California and Oregon to visit her brother and sister. She regularly spoke of her fond memories of times spent with her brother Ronald, her sister Mary Helen, and her late brother Johnny and their families. Starla would be the first one to tell you that Johnny was there to greet Patsy with open arms at the gates of heaven. Patsy loved being around people and talking to them about Jesus. She enjoyed attending her WINGS bible study, having coffee with friends, spending quality time with her grandchildren and her 6 great grandchildren. On most days you would find Patsy walking around her favorite mall passing out small, metal crosses to strangers and soldiers. She loved praying for people and telling them about the hope of Jesus. During her last few months, Patsy enjoyed working on puzzles with her daughters and her grandchildren. Those puzzles now hang in Patsy’s bedroom and around the house to remind us of the joy she brought to so many. Patsy loved life and loved experiencing it with her friends and family. She touched the lives of so many with her selflessness, generosity, kindness, and love. Our “Grandma Jean” will be missed greatly, but we know that through our faith in Jesus Christ that we will see her again. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles Murphy; and a brother, John L. Beard. Survivors include two daughters, Jayne Stouse and husband Drue of Leander, and Rhonda Robertson and husband Montie of Austin; a brother, Ronald Beard and wife Amy of California; a sister, Mary Helen Cloutier and husband Roger of Oregon; a sister-in-law, Starla Beard; four grandchildren, Anissa Orozco and husband Justin, Kayle Hill, Nate Robertson, and Breanna Robertson; three nephews, Scott, Bobby, Tommy; a niece, Laura; and six great-grandchildren, Aedan, Ava, Hannah, Estella, Evelyn, and Asher. “Mom, you have given so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, for loving us, for listening to us and for praying for us. We will work hard to pass on everything you have taught us. You were loved.”
