Thomas Edward Richie

Thomas Edward “Katdaddy” Richie, born January 7, 1955 in Amarillo, TX, left this world October 21, 2018. Tom was, among many other things, a Master Electrician, avid amateur photographer, professional vacation taker, accomplished stunt kite flyer, lover of hot air balloons, history hound, nature enthusiast, cook, cake-baker, pie-maker, loving and loved father and grandfather, devoted husband, loyal friend, and proud Texan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Jean Richie and sister Karen McAlpine. He is survived by his wife, Joan Richie, and his daughter Stephanie Richie of Amarillo; his son Michael Simmons and Daughter-in-law Valerie Szafranski of Chicago, IL; his son Jake Simmons and daughter-in-law Tiana Simmons of Springfield, MO; his seven grandchildren Izayah, Kaleia, Oliana, and Naia of Springfield, MO and Hailey, Molli, and Brecken of Amarillo, sister, Melinda Blea and husband Martin and sister Teresa Wilde as well as 5 nieces and 4 nephews and his informally adopted daughter Crystal and her husband Brett Hicks of Amarillo. A celebration and remembrance of Tom’s life will take place Saturday, October 27th at The Derrick event space, 814 S. Taylor Street in Amarillo, TX from 11am until 3pm. Friends and family are welcome to attend to. Please no flowers he enjoyed those while he was living.
