O'Dell Genn

June 16, 1951 — August 28, 2025

Amarillo

O’dell Genn, 74, of Amarillo, passed away on August 28, 2025. Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 AM on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Amarillo Fellowship Church, 8425 Bell St., with Pastor Jeremy Buck officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

O’dell worked for local farmers until graduating from Dumas High in 1970. He graduated from Draughon's Business College with an associate degree in accounting. He married his wife, Vickie Shaw Genn, on October 15, 1983. Together they have celebrated 41 years of marriage. O’dell served many years at multiple feed yards until beginning work at the Gruver Section of the Texas Department of Transportation. He ended his career with TXDOT in 2010 as a crew chief. He worked very hard all his life and moved to Amarillo to enjoy retirement with his family. O’dell was asked by the management of the Amarillo junior hockey team to drive their team bus. He loved driving the bus because it gave him the opportunity to get to know the young men on the team. O’dell also enjoyed the friends he made on the team staff.

O’dell’s leisure time was spent at the gun range or at the lake. He spent countless hours mastering his love of fly fishing. His other passion was traveling to amazing places with his wife, family, and friends. There were multiple trips with the "Hockey Family" to watch out-of-town games. O’dell really liked when those trips took them to the Gulf Coast because he got to go deep-sea fishing.

He suffered a life-changing stroke on Jan 5, 2023. He began residency at Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude, TX, in Aug 2023. He was lovingly cared for until his death on Thursday, Aug 28, 2025.

His smile and steady stream of stories will be severely missed by his family and many friends.

O’dell was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Vickie Genn of the home; his children, Jason Genn (wife Joanne) and Mendy Hetzler, all of Pampa, and Jennifer Ethridge (husband Michael) of Tulia, TX; his sister, Joyce Kasza of Dumas; and his grandchildren, Rhiannon Hudson (husband Daniel), Ryan Ethridge, Ada Genn, William Genn, Ivan Genn, and Angelique Farley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Amarillo Wranglers, youth hockey, 301 S. Grant Street, Amarillo, Texas.
