Olga "Molly" Griffin

June 30, 1941 — June 1, 2026

Amarillo

Molly was born on June 30, 1941, the youngest of eight children, to Jonas Brown Inglis and Ada Alberta Martin Inglis in Littlefield, Tx. and gave her life to Christ at an early age.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Donald Ray Inglis (and Freda) of Napa, CA; William Martin Inglis (and Martha) of Marysville, CA; Melba Jean Inglis Park (and Robert) of Concord, CA; Jonas Gerald Inglis (and Inez) of Lubbock, TX; twin infants, Kenneth and Katherine; another sister Laverne, all of Olton and daughter Fonda Jean Griffin Goebel of Amarillo.

She met her life partner, Harvey Eugene Griffin of Amherst, on a blind date set up by their classmates and they married on Dec. 20, 1958 in Earth.

Beginning with little financial resources and needing to move with Eugene’s job (18 times in 30 months!), she gave her life and love serving “as unto the Lord” (Col. 3:23) around the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles raising three children, being active in their local body of Christ, and making many friends as they went. After those 18 moves on system construction of Eugene’s job with utility companies, their first permanent home was in Muleshoe, then Littlefield, Olton, Bovina, Stratford and finally, Amarillo.

Molly was the quintessential doer of all things with a “can-do” attitude toward everything. She started out with her first jobs as a dental assistant, then costume designer/seamstress. She was a household engineer, homemaker, excellent cook, cake decorator, gardener, knitter, needlepoint, crochet, sewist, upholsterer, pianist, organist (for FBC Stratford for 12 years), bank teller, and could even play the accordion. She also graded cotton for a cotton exchange as well as teaching her children the value of hard labor hoeing cotton one summer in their young lives. As a mother, she made sure our time was always productive. If you ever doubted your ability to do something with an “I can’t…”, she would reply, “can’t never could!”. In home remodeling projects that she and Eugene would undertake as thrifting DIY’ers, Molly’s contribution was drywall taping, texturing and painting.

Another favorite thing for Molly and Eugene was camping. Their first experience at camping was to put a daybed mattress in the car, then on the ground at night out in the open air under the stars with the “creepy crawlers”. They graduated from that style of outdoorsmanship to a 9 x 12 tent. This proved to be quite adequate for a number of years – it made Molly feel safer. The tent was used in campouts from Texas to Washington state and through Arkansas.

Molly was an independent life insurance agent with National Farm Life for 36 years and an avid genealogist, being on the board of the Amarillo Genealogic Society.

She and Eugene were very active in the communities they lived and volunteered 18 years of retirement serving together with the Texas Baptist Men (Now Texans on Mission) traveling and serving from their 5th wheel camping trailer to provide disaster relief and construction projects across the United States. Molly’s contributions with the other ladies were clean up, group meals, sewing curtains for the building projects, sewing clothing for whoever needed, making quilts and singing at various meetings and in nursing homes. As their health demanded they stay close to home in Amarillo, they still enjoyed trips to visit family and friends and yearly reunion trips to Eugene’s Amherst graduating class of 1957.

At the beginning of their retirement, Molly began a prayer quilting ministry at South Georgia Baptist Church with the goal of sewing a specific quilt and praying for its recipient undergoing dialysis and tangibly providing for their warmth and dignity. Their recipients far and near grew to include many health or other concerns. Their latest count is 882 quilts.

Molly is survived by husband of 67 years, Harvey Eugene Griffin, Carol (and Johnny) Saunders of Amarillo; Ted Culver Goebel, husband of Fonda Jean Goebel Griffin (deceased); and Murray Allan (and Amanda) Griffin of Little Rock, AR. Grandchildren Amber (and Larry) Orick of Amarillo; Bethany (and Steven) Robinson of Indialantic, FL; Caitlyn (and Mason) Carlile of Amarillo; Haven Griffin of Memphis, TN; Joli Goebel of Canyon; and Maya Griffin of Washington, DC; and 7 great-grandchildren

Memorials may be made to Texans On Mission or SGBC Quilt Ministry.
