Opal Lee Young

December 12, 1931 — January 16, 2015

Opal was born on December 12, 1931 in Pioneer, Louisiana to Tom and Jewel Crosby. She was raised in the rural area of Mt. Olive, Mississippi and married David Wiley Young on July 1, 1948 in Amarillo, TX. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2000. Opal was a retired beautician that was passionate about her flower and rose gardens. She was active in the Amarillo community and was a member of Hillside Christian Church, Red Hat Society, Amarillo Garden Club, and was an Eastern Star. In her personal time she loved water skiing and fishing while spending time with her loved ones. She is survived by her Close friend, Tom Sossaman and her caregiver, Rita Young, both of Amarillo. Son David Young and wife Maria; Her sister Judy DeWitt and husband Gene of Caney, KS; 3 nephews, Howard, Marty, and Dan DeWitt; granddaughter, Rachel Young of Houston; grandson, Rocky Van Blommestein of Amarillo and 3 great grandchildren. The Young family is forever grateful to the team at Hospice Care of Southwest for the compassionate care they provided. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, David Wiley Young
