Patricia “Pat” “Tricia” Brown, 77, of Amarillo, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 12, 2025, at The Colonies Church of Christ, 4500 Wesley Rd., with Bret McCasland officiating.
Pat was born September 21, 1947 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Clifton and Laverle Rupe. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1965, and married her husband, Charles “Charlie” Brown, that summer on August 28, 1965. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage and raised two daughters, Laura and Donna in Clovis, New Mexico. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1988, and Pat worked as a school secretary for over 30 years at various school districts and retired from Canyon Schools.
Pat was a very hospitable person and a longtime member of Colonies Church of Christ. For many years, she volunteered for Ronald McDonald House by contributing to meals for families who were staying there. Following her cancer diagnosis in May of this year, she spent the summer making blankets for families at the Ronald McDonald House, thinking of others while going through an extremely difficult time herself. That was her character. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Being called Mimi and spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles “Charlie” “Gene” Brown; and her sister, Earlene Claypool.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Porterfield and husband Doyle of Amarillo, and Donna Davis and husband Tim of Buena Vista, CO; a brother, Michael Rupe of Rio Rancho, NM; a brother-in-law, Ron Claypool of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren, Derek Porterfield, Lynsi Brantley and Husband Evan, Andrew Monroe and wife Shalomi Momin, Matthew Monroe, Bethany Thomas and husband Tyler, and Morgan Monroe and fiancé Jonathan Scheckler; and three great-grandchildren, Hazel Porterfield, Emmy Brantley and Rowan Brantley.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to New Mexico Children’s Home in Portales, NM at www.nmcch.org; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, at www.stjude.org.
