On January 19, 2024 Penny Jean Moorman-Sherrard passed into Heaven where she is completely surrounded by unconditional love. Peneilya Jean Winter was born on December 18, 1934 to Max & Arlene (Zunkel) Winter, at Boone County Hospital in Boone, IA. Penny (as most knew her) and Ronald E. Moorman wed on January 19, 1952, and had three children — daughter, DeeAnna, and two sons, Monte and Gregg. She loved spending time with her granddaughters when they were young and they benefited from having “the best Grandmother anyone could ever ask for who made Christmas the most magical time of year.” Penny stayed busy and hard working throughout her life. She stayed at home to care for her three children during which she also was a hair dresser, helped transport cars among dealerships (with one of her best friends, Shirley Ross), and finally worked for Iowa State University until retirement in 2002. In 1995, Penny and Robert Sherrard married and enjoyed spending time with both their families, traveling, and RVing with friends and family, and building a close community of bonus family (friends) in Childress, TX until Robert’s passing in 2017. Penny loved unconditionally and because of that made friends easily and was a very good friend through thick and thin. Later in life, Penny enjoyed playing cards (Bridge) three times a week, going to chair yoga two mornings a week, and shared dinner every Saturday evening and many other outings, travels, and gatherings with her great group of girlfriends. To relax, Penny enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking iced tea and visiting with her friends and neighbors. Penny is preceded in death by her first son, Monte Kraig Moorman, her husband Robert Sherrard, and parents Arlene and Max. Still living are her daughter, DeeAnna (Randy) Bechtel, her son, Gregg (ReChelle) Moorman, her sister Sharon Dawdy, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and bonus family and friends that were part of her close-knit community in Childress Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in her honor for the annual Christmas Lights in the park to: Childress in the Park P.O. Box 306 Childress, TX. 79201
