Pilar G. Marufo

October 12, 1923 — July 4, 2015

Pilar was born on October 12, 1923 in Mariscal to Gilberto and Rodriga Marufo. He moved to Terlingua as a child. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944, serving in WWII. There he was a rifleman in the liberation of the South Philippines, where he received a purple heart, a good conduct medal, a bronze arrowhead and victory medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Connie Villasenor on December 18, 1962. She preceded him in death in September 6, 2007. Pilar worked for Asarco for over 25 years, retiring in the 1990's. He was a talented musician, playing the guitar, accordion, saxophone and the harmonica. He was known to be the life of the party and considered himself to be a jack of all trades, but a master of none. He is survived by his 2 sons, Eddie Marufo and wife Jill of Amarillo and Billy Joe Marufo of Kenya, Africa; daughter, Aurora Prieto and husband Joe of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Stephanie Marufo and daughter Lexie Smith and Marcus Marufo, Sam Prieto and wife Adela, David Prieta wife Michalle, Florencio Prieto and wife Patsy, Joe Prieto Jr., Brenda Prieto, Becky Prieto and wife Dana, Sandra Geck and husband Anthony, Renea Marufo; 13 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie Marufo and 2 sisters, Manuela and Petra.
