Ralph Edward Smith

Ralph was born on December 5, 1943 in Bakersfield, VT, the 4th child of Leslie V. and Ardelle Marcher Smith. He was raised in Walden Heights attending schools there as well as in Greensboro Bend and Danville VT. Growing up he spent his summers with his special aunt and uncle, Carroll and Mary Smith and working for Marvin Greaves on his farm. He spent a short time working for the Vermont Railroad before beginning his employment with Moeller Power Line, where he worked throughout the central United States. He ended up residing in Cortez, Colorado where he met and married Karen Diane Martin (Herndon). To this union his daughter Tanya was born and he gained two step sons, Troy and Scott. He worked busting tires for many years and then spent his later years working and retiring as an oil field pumper. His favorite hobby was woodworking which he loved and was very talented at. He made many styles of furniture but his passion was making log style furniture out of Aspen logs that he cut down himself in the mountains of Colorado. In February of 2014 he moved to Canyon , TX to live with his daughter her family. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Gardner and husband Jeff of Canyon, TX; step sons, Scott Martin of Cortez, CO; & Troy Hart and wife Cathy of Morierty, NM; siblings, Martha Alexander of Waterville, VT, Linda Maberry and husband Glen of El Dorado Springs, MO. Doug Smith and wife Carol of Florence, SC, Vaughn Smith and wife Barbara of Ryegate, VT, Gary Smith of Cabot, VT, Kevin Smith and wife Mary Lou of Lancaster, NH, his aunt Beth Marcher of Jefferson, VT; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Robert Smith.
