Randy was born Nov. 27, 1960, in Tulare, Calif., to J.R. and Dorothy Pool. He graduated from Spearman High School. He was an incredible basketball player, averaging 20 points a game in the 1977 regional basketball tournament, coming off the bench. He was an enthusiastic golfer, who loved playing golf with his brothers and sister during the annual Pool family golf week. He also had a passion for crossword puzzles. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Being with family meant so much to Randy, but the apple of his eye was his daughter, Emerald. As his family put it, "to know him, was to love him."
He was preceded in death by his father, J.R. "Bunk" Pool.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Pool of Amarillo; a daughter, Emerald Pool of Fort Worth; three brothers, Stanley Pool and wife Karen of Provo, Utah, Alan Pool and wife Jaimye of Dumas and Gary Pool and wife Krista of Amarillo; a sister, Frances Pool and husband Mike Marsh of Amarillo; his companion, Pam Barber of Fort Worth; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to a local AA chapter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
