Bonnie “Rhenea” King, 80, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024. Celebration of Life Services will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Hillside Christian Church - Canyon Campus, 1800 23rd St. in Canyon, with Gerald Buchanan officiating.
Rhenea was born July 23, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas to Emmett and Opal McClenny. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1961. She married Jimmy Lee King on October 5, 1978.
Rhenea was a florist with a beautiful and creative hand. Her fun-loving spirit was shown in all her pieces. She worked for several floral shops over her career, including J&E Wholesale, Freeman’s Flowers, Cunningham’s, United Market Street, and Zelsman’s. She also owned and operated Flowers by Rhenea. She was a member of the Amarillo Florist Association.
Aside from flowers, Rhenea loved the mountains and fishing. She raised her kids going to the family cabin at Lake Buchanan, and later enjoyed going to Red River. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Her four year old great-great grandson, Houston, was her best friend and partner in crime.
Rhenea loved Jesus with all her heart. She was active in church at San Jacinto Baptist Church, and then Coulter Road Baptist Church. She lived life to the fullest and was happy, no matter what challenges she faced. She was an eternal optimist and was accepting of people and non-judgmental. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rhenea was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Opal McClenny; her husband, Jim King; a sister, Sue Thaxton; a brother, Mark McClenny; and a great-great- granddaughter, Ocean.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Gamble and husband Michael of Canyon, Lisa Vega and husband Julio of Prosper, TX; a son, Greg Ballard and wife Desiree of Prosper, TX; eight grandchildren, Erica Marry, Ashley Calhoun and husband Devin, Dusty Gamble and wife Lauren, Chance Gamble and wife Lexi, Mattie Vega, Camille Vega, Cale Coyle and wife Courtney, and Nathan Ballard; 16 great-grandchildren, Raylee, Anna, Ellie, Max, Ty, Gracie, Caleb, Cayce, Tilly, Nova, Callen, Griffin, Caleb, Daniel, Chase and Cheyenne; and three great-great grandchildren, Houston, Ana’Rose, and Marry’Belle. She is also survived by many dearly loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
