Richard was born on October 19, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Wencil and Ludmila Burian. He was raised in Cedar Rapids, where he graduated from Wilson High School. He then attended Iowa State University where he earned his Master's Degree in engineering. He married Judith Chadima on January 19, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. Richard worked for Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH for over 30 years before moving to Amarillo to work for Pantex until his retirement.
Richard enjoyed watching sports and had been a Cubs fan since childhood. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed camping with his family. He loved his family and his church immensely.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Burian of Amarillo; son, Dennis Burian and wife Deborah of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Barbara Burian and husband Key Dismukes of San Jose, CA; son, Thomas Burian and wife Lucinda of Plain City, OH; daughter, Jane Burian and husband Kirk Hathaway of Youngsville, NC; son, Andrew Burian and wife Robin of Brownsburg, IN; son, John Burian and wife Kelley of Thornville, OH; aunt, Sister Christine Elias of Omaha, NE; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Burian and daughter, Teresa Burian
