Richard James LeGrand “Dickey”, 74, of Amarillo, died Saturday, March 2, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at First Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1208 S. Tyler St. with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial will be at Llano East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Dickey was born July 10, 1944 in Amarillo to John and Anna LeGrand. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, teaching mechanics at Aberdeen Proving Ground before volunteering as a tank mechanic during Vietnam. He married Pamela Dunn on August 31, 1968. Dickey was an extremely hard worker. He farmed and raised livestock on the family farm his entire life and worked at ASARCO for over 30 years until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed going to auctions, was a collector of “stuff”, and could fix anything. Dickey was always helping others and always willing to teach you something. He and Pam were longtime members of First Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Russel LeGrand; a sister, Kay LeGrand; and two brothers, Harry LeGrand and Robert LeGrand. Survivors include his wife, Pam LeGrand; a son, Randy LeGrand of Amarillo; six daughters, Cris Sheffield and husband Bill, Carrie Finley and husband Troy, Janet Pritchett and husband Forrest all of Amarillo, Melanie Hartman and husband Beau of Happy, Marcie Pergeson and husband Michael of Albert, NM, and Peggy LeGrand of Ashburn, VA; two daughters-by-heart, Cheryl Rigler and Margie Eichenberger both of Amarillo; a son-by-heart, David LeGrand and wife Sheri of Amarillo; two sisters, Patricia Woodall of Sheridan, AR, and Pam Husted and husband Heath of Friona; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be made to High Plains Children's Home Livestock Program, 11461 S. Western St. Amarillo, TX 79118.
