Richard or "Coach" as many of you refer to him, was born in Luling, TX to Clarence and Joye Shade and graduated high school in Winters, TX in 1965. There he played football, basketball, golf, and track for the Winters "Blizzards". He went to college at Oklahoma State University in 1966 on a basketball scholarship. While in college, he married Randa Crain in 1968, and moved to Amarillo, TX in 1970. There he embarked on a career as a teacher and coach at Austin Junior High from 1970-1973. In 1973, he began coaching at Canyon High School for many years. In 1989, he received a Master's degree from West Texas State University. He was the Assistant Principal at Canyon Junior High until 1998. He was the assistant girls basketball and track coach at Amarillo High School from 1999-2004. In 2004 until his retirement in 2014, he was a behavioral counselor at North Heights alternative school, where he was awarded the Teacher of the year award in 2005. His favorite hobbies included golf, hunting, and fishing. He was a member and deacon of Westview Christian Church. He was an awesome father and grandfather to 3 grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He impacted a countless number of people's lives with his quick wit and humor, along with the caring spirit of a true saint. He will be dearly missed by many. The family would like to especially thank Walter Lewis and Chris Gage, for all of their care for Richard.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Randa, his son Matt and wife Tina. One grandson Jackson, two granddaughters Bradleigh and Hailey and a bonus granddaughter Smith Tribou. One brother, Forrest Shade and wife Merrikay. Many loved neices and nephews
