Richard Clyde “Rick” Smith, 63, of Amarillo, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019. Rick was born January 14, 1956 in Colby, Kansas to Clyde Mervin Smith and Bernice McAllister Smith. He attended Atwood High School in Atwood, Kansas. In his youth, he worked the farm with family in Kansas. In 1975, he moved to Amarillo.  Rick married Lydia Mona Smith on June 23, 1979. Rick worked for Aamco, Fikes Transmissions, then from 1982-2007, he owned and operated J & R Transmissions. He later became an employee for the City of Amarillo until he retired in January of 2019.  Rick was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his son and his friends. He loved his grandchildren, really enjoyed sports, and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter Ellie Bea Smith. He is survived by his wife Lydia Mona Smith of Amarillo; his son Richard Clyde Smith, Jr. and wife, Serena of Amarillo; his daughter, Monica Rachelle Childers and husband Chris of Howardwick, TX; three sisters, Connie Hower of Amarillo, Carol Harper of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Deby Smith of Clarendon, TX; grandchildren, Briana Childers, Shaun Childers, Kamber Childers, Tucker Smith, Alice Smith, Sevon Willmon; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
