Robert "Bob" Gill, 92, of Amarillo passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Llano Cemetery. Robert was born on January 30, 1926 in Paris, TX to Louis Alexander Gill and Jessie Mae Gill (Boren). He was raised in North Texas, where he graduated from high school before enlisting in the United States Army. He served until his honorable discharge after two years of service. A naturally talented musician and self-taught guitar player (steel guitar), he traveled around playing at various music venues in North Texas and the Panhandle. He eventually settled in Amarillo, where he met married Edith Gill (Amos) on January 17, 1948, live on the radio station KFDA where he performed regularly as a musician on the Cowboy and the Lady Program. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2013. Robert devoted himself to serving the Lord, serving as the Baptist pastor at his church, First Freewill Baptist Church of Amarillo. He retired in the late 1990s from the ministry. In his free time, he enjoyed working outside in his garden and tending to his small farm animals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Alexander Gill and Jessie Mae Gill (Boren); his wife, Edith Gill; several siblings; a daughter, Sherry Broaddus; and a son, Larry Gill. Robert is survived by his son, Jerry Gill of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Jerianne, Derrick, Brandy, Jerad, and Ricky; and several great-grandchildren.
