This wonderful father was born June 3, 1931, in Amarillo to James Cecil and Mabel Richards McCausland. He attended Margaret Wills, Sam Houston and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. He went on to graduate from Amarillo College in 1951 and University of Texas School of Dentistry in 1956. From 1956 to 1958, Dr. McCausland was a captain in the Air Force, stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. On June 5, 1954, Bob married the first love of his life, Winona June Elliott, in Houston. They were blessed to be together for 55 years until Winnie passed away in October of 2009. To this union, there were three children; Cecily Ann, Melinda Kay and Robert Ross Jr.
Dr. McCausland moved back to Amarillo in 1958 and set up his dental practice on Plains Blvd. Then in 1971, he and three partners built a new complex on West 34th Street. He practiced dentistry there for more than 50 years until a fall and hip fracture in 2013 forced him to retire. On Jan. 1, 2011, Bob married the second love of his life, Sallie Parsley Stidger. They were married for more than four years and Sallie devoted herself to Bob's care and made his last years extremely happy and comfortable.
Dr. McCausland loved Amarillo and the many friends and patients he had here. He loved his Air Force buddies and his dear friends from dental school. He adored his friends in the Fishermen Class' at Paramount Terrace/Hillside Christian Church. He loved singing in the church choir and participating in the yearly Christmas pageant. One of his greatest pleasures was getting together with old friends, like the high school reunions that were held regularly by his 1949 class. He loved hunting with the Simpsons, the Osborns, Sam Marmaduke and many other companions. Bob's joy was taking the family on a vacation somewhere and exploring new, exciting place. He had a great big lap that was always open to crawl into. He attended every recital, award assembly and ceremony until he was physically unable to do so. He was a wonderful husband, dad, paw paw and friend.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers and their wives, James Cecil Jr. and Juanita and Dr. John Ray and Barbara.
Survivors include his wife Sallie; his children, Cecily and husband Patrick Ledbetter, Mindy and husband Dr. Paul Johnson and Ross and wife Gina McCausland; six grandchildren, Bridget Bockmiller and husband Jeff, Rachel Ledbetter, Katherine Johnson and Jared, Evan and Alex McCausland, a stepdaughter Tonya Wadley; a stepgranddaughter Mikalea Emerly; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Linley Bockmiller; three nieces; and a nephew; and a host of other family members and friends.
