Robert Dan Renegar

Robert Dan Renegar, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. 

Robert was born February 11, 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert C. and Mina Renegar. He graduated from high school in Fort Worth and went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. He joined the U.S Navy and proudly served his country for the next three and a half years. While in the Navy, Robert served as assistant to the chaplain as well as playing the piano and singing in a quartet. He was stationed in San Diego and traveled to several places while in the Navy. After his discharge, Robert went back to Burlington Northern, which later merged with Santa Fe to become BNSF. He retired after 58 ½ years, setting a record of employment term.

Robert married the love of his life, Patsy, on August 3, 1958 in Fort Worth. Together, they raised three daughters, Suzan, Valerie and Michelle. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together until Patsy’s passing in 2013. Robert was a talented musician and had a beautiful tenor singing voice. He and Patsy were active members of Central Baptist Church of Amarillo for several decades, where Robert sang as well as playing the piano and organ. In his spare time, Robert immensely enjoyed working in his flower gardens. He grew many beautiful flowers, including roses, snap dragons, geraniums and mums. After Patsy’s passing, Robert became a member of New Testament Christian Church in Amarillo.

Robert loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a devoted family man and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was funny, selfless and kind and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy Renegar; a daughter, Suzan Tomme; his sister, Mary Ann Waddell; and a grandson, Jason Tomme.

Survivors include two daughters, Valerie Holder and husband Ty of Illinois, and Michelle Renegar of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Michael David West, Michael Louis Tomme, Sharon Tomme, Tyson Holder, Mallory Holder, and Adam Robert Holder; and six great-grandchildren, Zendalina, Elaina, Lincoln, Luna, William, and Dillon.
