Roger Q. “Banjo” Holman, 90, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 24, 2025 at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Roger was born July 2, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas to Thomas and Vera Holman. When he was very young, he acquired the nickname “Banjo” because of his big bright eyes. The name stuck and most people knew him as Banjo for his entire life. He graduated from Amarillo High School. He made his career at Asarco as a locomotive engineer for many years, retiring in 2004.
In his spare time, Banjo was active at his church, Southlawn Assembly of God. He was also an avid fan of the UT Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a big sports fan and enjoyed following local high school sports as well. Most especially, Banjo loved going to his grandkids’ games and events. He was a selfless person who always put others first. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Deloris Holman; his son, Danny Holman; three sisters, Doris, Laverne and Jonnie; and three brothers, Charlie, Maurice and T.W.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Holman; three grandchildren, Amanda Waters and husband Mike of Fredonia, AZ, April Riddle and husband Donnie of Kanab, UT, Danny Holman, Jr and wife T.C. of Page, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Thomason and husband Jeff of Amarillo; and seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Clayton, Mikelle, Jaxon, Dominic, Danni and Janika.
