Ronald C. Stair of Amarillo, Texas born August 18, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, to Margaret and Melvin Stair. Ron was raised in Jasper, Tenn. until, the age of 15, when he moved to Weatherford, Tx. with his family. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1955. After High School, he joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, where he was a flight mechanic, achieving the rank of Corporal. Ron remained a proud Marine the rest of his life. SEMPER FI! In 1960, he met Beth Wiginton Draper. They married December 22, 1962 in Plainview. They have four children, Valorie Susan, Cristi Leigh Ayn, David Gale, and Tomeka Danielle; and a loving dog, "Boo Radley."
In 1968, Ron and Beth moved their family to Amarillo where he worked for W R Grace & Co. He later worked for many years in the banking industry; first at 1st Federal S&L and later for Tascosa National.
In 1976, he graduated from West Texas State University. From then until the day he died, he was an avid Buffalo fan, rarely missing a football, basketball or volleyball game until his health failed in 2015. He was a longtime member of the Buffalo Club and Cager Club.
In 1986, he became a self-employed real estate appraiser and he remained in that career until his retirement in 2012. Ron was a loyal and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan from the team's inception until now. He stuck with them through thick and thin, mostly thin, the last few years! His first grandson was named after Tom Landry. He was also a longtime member of Amarillo Downtown Kiwanis Club.
In 2002, Ron was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. On May 5, 2016 at 7:18 P.M. he was released from the prison his body had become, and laid his crown at the feet of Jesus, completely healed, completely forgiven. His last few days in Hospice were a sacred time for our family. We all gathered around his bed to tell him how much we loved him. Each Grandchild, whom he adored, got to hug and kiss him and say goodbye. What a blessing that was.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; his four children, Susan Packard and husband Lon of Amarillo, Cristi Clapp and husband Shan of Amarillo, David Stair and wife Kristi of Frisco, Tomeka Stair of New Orleans, La.; a brother, Tom Stair and wife Carolyn of Athens, Al.; Grandchildren, Landry Clapp and wife Jill Corbin Clapp, Addie Clapp, Barrett Packard, Gracen Packard and Raven Kopp; and many nieces and nephews that he clearly loved.
