Mrs. Spann was born Sept. 26, 1909, in Wetumka, Okla., the oldest of 12 to Owen and Ruth Roberts. After graduating from high school, she became the first member of her family to go to college. She graduated from East Central State College in Ada, Okla., and taught school in Oklahoma until she moved to Borger in the 1940s. She earned a master's degree and a counseling certificate at West Texas State University. In Borger, Rosa taught in elementary school, was principal of Huber Elementary School and was later senior counselor at Borger High School. She was also the supervisor of Borger's Summer Recreation program. After retiring from a long teaching career, she returned to the Huber Elementary School building, which had been remodeled as a senior citizens center and served as the director of operations center until her final retirement in 1996. She moved to Amarillo with her husband, Claude, in 1996. She attended Paramount Baptist Church. Rosa was a remarkable woman who touched thousands of lives throughout her life. She was an inspiration to all who know her.
