Rose Mary Rundell Brooks, 79, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 4801 S. Austin with Pastor Scott Tilley officiating. Graveside service will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Mark Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. Rose was born in Dodge City, KS on April 28, 1939 to Clifford and Irma Rundell. She graduated from Bucklin High School. Rose married the love of her life, Bruce Brooks on August 4, 1957 in Bucklin, KS. She attended Central College in McPherson, KS and later obtained her RN degree at Northwest Texas Hospital's School of Nursing in Amarillo. Rose worked for the Southwest Osteopathic Hospital and Northwest Texas Hospital. She worked at the Shawnee County Health Department in Topeka, KS before moving to Enid, OK in 1983. Rose began teaching at the Autry Technology Center in Enid, OK as a Health Occupations instructor and later was a consultant for the Arbors in Enid. In 1987 Rose earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and retired after 20 years of teaching. During her tenure Rose was recognized in the Who's Who Among America's Teachers and on the Dean's Honor Roll at Central State University. Rose was inducted into the National Vocational - Technical Honor Society in 2002. Rose and Bruce returned to Amarillo in 2006. She was an accomplished musician who played piano, organ, and saxophone. Rose was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, Gideons International Auxiliary, the Oklahoma State Vocational Association, Oklahoma State Health Occupations Div., and Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. Rose was the unsuspecting comedian and instigator of many practical jokes. Her care and concern for others was a witness of God's grace to us all. Rose Mary will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include her husband, Bruce Brooks of Amarillo; two sons, Lonnie L. Brooks and wife Rhonda of Amarillo, Scott Brooks and wife Lynn of Wheeler; two daughters, Jane Willie of Marble Falls, Laura Ratheal and husband David of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clarabelle Stephenson and husband Lewis of Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, 4801 S. Austin St. Amarillo, TX 79110 and Gideons International, 2200 SW 7th Ave, Amarillo,TX 79106.
