Roy "Jamps" Worst

July 13, 1945 — November 27, 2018

Canyon

Roy “Jamps” Worst, 73, of Canyon, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018. A Celebration of Life gathering will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Cross Pointe Church, 4400 S. Crockett St. Roy was born July 13, 1945 in Amarillo to Eli and Red Worst. He attended Amarillo High School. He married his childhood sweetheart and best friend Brenda Powers in Amarillo in 1965. Proudly, his daughter Wendy was a “love child” of the 60’s. Roy made his career as a painter and carpenter. He was a jack of all trades. There was absolutely nothing that Roy couldn’t build or repair. He was self-employed for most of his career, retiring in 2010. Roy was also a very talented musician. He played guitar, piano, and harmonica. He passed this love for music on to his grandkids, as he taught them to play as well. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. His son-in-law Wendell was his buddy, his fishing guide, and his favorite cook. Roy was the ultimate family man. He loved spending time with his large family. There were never any boundaries between blood relatives and those whom he inherited. He adored his wife Brenda, who passed away in 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Brenda Worst; and a sister, Jo Deana Poquette. Survivors include two daughters, Kim Sizemore, and Wendy Shoemaker and husband Wendell Shoemaker all of Amarillo; five special grandchildren, Dallas Sizemore and fiancée Sydney Kyle, Ryan Weaver, Lacee Veazey and husband Toby Veazey, Kyle Weaver, and Trey Shoemaker all of Amarillo; a brother, Mike Worst and wife Charlene of Arlington; a sister, Rita Tucker of Arlington; his best friends and caregivers, Jerry and Trina Carpenter and their kids, Katy, Lala, and Michael; three sisters-in-law, Treva Boatwright, Carolyn Ledford, and Delores Powers; two brothers-in law, Bobby Powers and Danny Powers and wife Tammie; his fishing buddy and nephew, Rick Boatwright; a niece, Jamie Arroyos, who was near and dear to his heart; numerous other special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org; or to City Church Outreach Ministry, 205 S. Polk St. Amarillo, TX 79101.
