Russell Reneau

Russell Reneau, 93, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday December 27, 2024. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 4, 2025, at Arden Road Baptist Church, 6701 Arden Road, with Pastor Aaron Denson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday January 3, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Russell was born on September 18, 1931, in Amarillo to Levest and Clarabell Reneau. He married Jean Bearden on October 24, 1953, in Clovis, New Mexico. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage together. Russell enlisted in the United States Navy in October of 1948 when he was 17 years old. He served in the Korean Conflict as his enlistment was extended, serving on the destroyer ship, USS Maddox DD731. Russell was honorably discharged in 1952. In 1956, He began working for the United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines, Helium Field Operations. Russell spent 34 dedicated years with the bureau before he retired in September of 1986.

Russell was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. Among his many attributes, Russell dedicated his free time to volunteering at his church, Arden Road Baptist Church in Amarillo. Specifically, Russell served in the tape and CD ministry at the church and helped with handyman jobs that might need attention. He was a talented handyman and could often be found helping with repairs at West Texas Christian School and San Jacinto Christian Academy. Russell also ran the concession stands for the schools events when available. Russell enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren. Russell and Jean could often be found on trips to Branson, Missouri and Red River, New Mexico with friends. Russell’s sons have fond memories of travel and quality time with their father. He was loved by all he encountered; he will be missed.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jean Reneau in 2021; two brothers, James Reneau and Buddie Reneau; one sister, Ermastein Burnette.

Survivors include his three sons, Danny Reneau and wife Marla, Russ Reneau and wife Joan, and Marty Reneau and wife Sandy all of Amarillo; one brother, Robert Reneau and wife Sonya; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Survivors also include a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Arden Road Baptist Church Missions Ministry, 6701 Arden Road, Amarillo, TX 79109. Also, to Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home, 1020 Tascosa Road, Amarillo, TX 79124.
