Amarillo

Ruth Woods Dawson, 92, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1208 S. Tyler St. with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Ruth was born December 27, 1930 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Adrian and Fern Woods. She graduated from Amarillo High School. She married the love of her life, Charlie Dawson on July 15, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. Ruth worked for over 30 years as a revenue officer for the IRS. She and Charlie were very active at First Baptist Church for many years. They served as house parents and cooks at Glorieta and went on many missions trips. Ruth had a true servant’s heart; she gave generously of her time, talent and resources to everyone with a humble heart. Her favorite pastime was sending cards to friends, family and anyone who needed encouragement. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed doing needlepoint, playing Rummikub and eating at Braum’s with her family. Ruth will be especially missed by her precious Schnauzer “Barney”.

The THING that matters most in life, to me, is that ALL of my family, including "greats" would come to know Jesus and would love Him with all their hearts.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Charles Ray Dawson.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Davis of Loveland, CO and Melinda Frazer and husband Robert of Midlothian, TX; and son, Terry Dawson and wife Corina of New Braunfels, TX; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Davis Maxwell of Canyon, Sarah Davis Clark and husband Peter of Boulder, CO, Josh Davis and wife Celia of Canyon, Morgan Frazer Hargrove and husband David, Berkley Frazer Beam, and Dawson Frazer and wife Marissa all of Waxahachie, TX, Austin Frazer of Dallas and Jared Dawson and wife Sarah of Amarillo; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials to Mountain High Camp, PO Box 467, Winnsboro, TX 75494; or mountainhighcamp.com.
