Ruth was born June 30, 1933 in Flat River, Missouri to Vivian and Herbert Smith. She graduated high school from Flat River High School where she was salutatorian. In her days, the top classmates would be given a trip to wherever they wanted. She and her best friend Jackie, who was valedictorian, chose to go to Biloxi, Mississippi. While they were there, they met two airmen who asked if they could sit at their table. Both girls said yes, one of those airmen was Homer E. Dotts and the rest, as they say, is history. Upon arriving back in Missouri, Ruth attended Mineral Wells Junior College on a business scholarship. She was a member of Eastridge Baptist Church where she was on the kitchen committee and taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls Sunday school class for over 20 plus years. Ruth loved quilting, crossword puzzles, singing and trying new foods. She was an avid basketball fan and could tell you all the stats of every player, her favorite team was the Philadelphia 76ers. She had a knack with her roses as well, making the neighborhood flowers for all occasions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer E. Dotts and her brothers, Richard and Jerry Lee Smith.
