Sammy Newton, 69, of Amarillo, died Friday, February 9, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Rd., with Associate Pastor Dale Moreland officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Sammy was born March 11, 1948 in Springer, New Mexico to Sam and Jody Newton. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1966. He attended Amarillo College. Sammy worked at The Church at Quail Creek for 25 years, retiring as media director in 2016. He started the Joy Puppet Ministry during his time there. He was extremely knowledgeable with computers. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, the Texas Longhorns, and the Dallas Cowboys. Sammy was a very kind-hearted person. He was a friend to everyone, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two brothers, Mike Newton and wife Peggy, and Kevin Newton and wife Tammie all of Amarillo; a sister, Jayne Mitchell and husband Bruce of Lubbock; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Rd. Amarillo, Texas 79124. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
