Santos (Garza) Gonzales

Santos Garza Gonzales, 85, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 26, 2019. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at First Baptist Church of Olton, 600 Ave. M, Olton, Texas with Jesse Vidaurre officiating. Burial will be at Olton Cemetery. Rosary service will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Santos was born May 23, 1934 in Yoakum, Texas to Alfredo and Elvira Garza. She married Jose “Joe” Gonzales in Dimmitt on March 9, 1969. Santos worked all her life. She was a seamstress at Sue Ann’s sewing factory in Hereford. Santos was an incredible cook and “master” tortilla maker. She enjoyed landscaping, gardening, doing crochet, and making jewelry. Known as “Haney” to her family, Santos was a mom and grandmother, not only to her own kids, but also to many other kids. She taught her family how to love, to never hold a grudge, to forgive, to stay humble, and to always help with a pure heart. She didn’t have all the riches, but was rich in love and blessings. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Santos was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elvira Garza Fonseca and Ernestina Garza Martinez; and two brothers, Vicente Garza and Esmeraldo Garza. Survivors include her husband, Joe Gonzales; three daughters, Dora Bollinger and husband Michael, Eva Lee Gonzales and husband Alejandro Hernandez, and Shanell Gonzalez and husband Roman Padilla all of Amarillo; two sons, Johnny Martinez and wife Diane Vega, and Jesus Gonzalez of Amarillo; a sister, Juanita Mendoza and husband Emilio Mendoza, Sr. of Corpus Christi; a brother, Alfred Garza and wife Olivia of Olton; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
