Sharon Kaye Long, 80, of Canyon, TX went peacefully into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on November 3, 2024. Private family service are scheduled at a later date.
Kaye was born in Muleshoe, TX to John and Ada (Alexander) Thomson on August 26, 1944. As a child she spent many happy years on the farm with her siblings and parents. She attended the Muleshoe school system and graduated from Muleshoe High in 1962.
Kaye met the love of her life, Norval “Chuck” Long in Lubbock, TX, where after 6 short weeks of dating they married. Remaining happily together until his passing in 2001. They shared many adventures together and moved around the Western states until settling in Canyon, TX in 1983.
She was what could be called a “Jill of all Trades”, she worked as a seamstress, bus driver, substitute teacher, executive assistant, secretary and even a hair dresser. Kaye was out at Highland Park ISD, in Amarillo, as a secretary to the Special Education Director until she retired in 2010. There was a point in time she learned to drive a “Big Truck” and traveled with her husband around the country.
Kaye had 2 children, Michele in 1964 and Jane in 1968. She spent many years of her life going to basketball, football and volleyball games, band concerts and all the Girl and Boy Scouts activities with her children. Kaye loved the outdoors, swimming and waterskiing were two of her favorite activities, so much so, she was actually out skiing on the day her oldest was born! Tending to her yard, gardening, anything to do with the outside made her very happy. She could run any power tool, drive a nail, hang drywall, lay brick, and replace windows- if it needed to be done, she could do it!
Besides her children, her grandbabies were her world. She did everything she could to make sure they had everything that they needed, and more importantly, everything they thought they wanted. She spoiled them absolutely rotten!
Kaye was met in Heaven by her parents; her three brothers, Bill; Wink and Jim Thomson; her sister, Jon Ann Crow; her daughter, Jana; her two grandsons, Matthew and Danny Joe Cranmer; and a great-grandson Kendall Cranmer.
She is survived by her daughter, Michele Ladue and husband Chris of Amarillo, TX; her sister Pat Hicks of Casa Grande, AZ; her grandchildren, Rowdy Cranmer and partner Penelope Buckles of Canyon, TX; Brittany Cranmer and wife Leah of Amarillo, TX; Jennifer Adams and her husband Tim of Krum, TX; Amber Adams and her husband Craig of Phoenix, AZ; her great-grandchildren; RJ, Saber, Zailey, Xander, Kallen, Keegan, Kami and Kaleb. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews and their families whom she loved all very much.
She will be greatly missed and loved forever and always.
