Sherry was born on August 10, 1956 in Seminole, Texas to Lillian and Leslie Cowart. She graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas in 1974 and soon after moved to Amarillo where she met her husband Ray and together achieved over forty years of marriage. Throughout her career she worked as a Bookkeeper for accounting firms, banks, and insurance companies. After retiring, she took care of her grandchildren Annabel and Hanson Irving who were her greatest love and joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend. She was a dedicated Cowboys fan, an avid animal lover, a talented baker according to her grandchildren, and a beloved friend. She had a beautiful, compassionate, and faithful heart. Her natural maternal instincts led her to nurture and care for anyone who turned up on her front porch; weather it was a little furry friend or a lost soul. She touched many lives and instilled in all of us the importance taking care of one another. She taught us that your strength does not come from winning. Instead, your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is the definition true strength. She bravely battled cancer with grace and dignity. Her spirit will live on through us and her memory will make us all better people. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie Cowart, her brother Ronald Cowart, and her sister in law Donna Hanson.
She is survived by her husband Ray Hanson; her two daughters: Kimberly Irving of Amarillo and her husband, Gabriel, Melissa Hanson of Amarillo and her husband, Daniel Lanquist; two grandchildren: Annabel Lee Irving and Hanson Hill Irving; her mother Lillian Searcy and husband Coy; brother Edgar Cowart of Abilene and his wife Dina; sister in law Glenna Easley of Waco; brother in law David Hanson of Waco; two nieces Amanda Layland of Abilene and her husband Michel, and Heather Barajas of Irving and her husband Eddie, and two nephews Cy Cowart of Brownwood and his wife Deana; Courtney Cowart of Amarillo; her great nephew Austin Layland; and great niece Ashlee Layland, and many close friends and family members whom she loved dearly.
