Shirley (Shawhart) Sperry

Shirley Shawhart Sperry, 82, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Cox- Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive with Pastor Rick Chadick officiating. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on January 14, 1943 in Powderley, Texas to Lonnie and Allene Shawhart. She grew up in Memphis. She married Bobby Joe Sperry on June17, 1960 in Memphis, and they raised a son Michael there. While in Memphis, Shirley worked for the sheet factory. After the couple moved to Amarillo in 1991, she worked for Target, retiring a few years later as cashier supervisor.

In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed going to casinos and gambling; she especially loved her annual anniversary trips to Las Vegas with Bobby Joe. She also enjoyed shooting and was quite good at it. She had a group of girlfriends that got together for lunches, working out and playing cards. She very much enjoyed the time she was able to spend with these friends. She was also a die-hard Toby Keith fan. Shirley had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, and will be dearly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Joe Sperry; and her brother, Jimmy Lee Shawhart.

Survivors include her son, Michael Sperry and wife Darla of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Michael Chase Layton and Mason Joseph Sperry.
