Slade Byron Ball, Jr.

October 12, 1927 — January 5, 2018

Slade was born on October 12, 1927 in Alanreed to Slade Sr. and Amy Ball. He moved to Amarillo as a child, where he graduated from Amarillo High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army before serving in the Reserves, retiring after 29 years. On August 9, 1968 he married the love of his life, LaFerne Thompson. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2016. Slade worked in hardware sales most of his life. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys & Oklahoma City Heat, woodworking and building furniture and was an avid John Wayne fan. Above all, he was a Christian and a devoted member of South Georgia Baptist Church. He is survived by his son, Tracy Ball and wife Teresa of Amarillo; daughters, Dana Webber of Amarillo, Deborah Brietling and husband Darrell of McKinney and Candice Marie of Amarillo; brother, Ralph Ball and wife Mary of Linwood, Kansas and many grandchildren great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diana McClain and wife, LaFerne Ball.
