Steven Alan Compton, 70, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 PM Mountain Time (3:00 PM Central Time) on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Restoration Baptist Church, 302 Gidding St. in Clovis, New Mexico, with Rev. Dan Pearce officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, January 7, 2022 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive in Amarillo.
Steven was born in Clovis, New Mexico on December 5, 1951. He was a member of the graduating class of Clovis High School in 1969. He continued his education at Clovis Community College in Residential Construction.
Steven was married to Debra Logsdon Compton on December 22, 1974. They were married for 47 years.
Steven held various jobs throughout the years, but he spent the majority of his career, 33 years, in the oilfield business. His job took him and his family to several places from Amarillo, TX, Houston, TX, Derby, KS, Andrews, TX, El Paso, TX, Midland, TX and San Angelo, TX. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved back to Amarillo, TX to be closer to family.
When not working, Steven enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, making jewelry, and tinkering on old cars. He was also a musician who was actively involved in spreading the gospel through his music. He sang in several groups, including a quartet called the West Texas Watchmen and he loved to sing in his church choir.
Steven was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Lee Compton.
Steven is survived by his wife Debra; two daughters, Brittney C. Williams and husband Gary, and Brooke C. Anderson and husband Ben; his mother Sylva P. Compton; his sister, Carol C. Criswell and husband Dennis; seven grandchildren, Tyson (Rylee) Lopez, Presley Lopez, Olivia Williams, Joshua Williams, Brantley Anderson, Gavin Anderson, and Larissa Anderson; his great-grandson, Hayes Lopez; plus many more family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Pre-Born! non-profit organization at preborn.org. The family of Steven A. Compton wishes to thank Pre-Born! for defending the helpless. They would also like to thank Interim Hospice for their compassion and dedication to their patients.
