Terry was born Sept. 28, 1956, in Tulia to J.C. and Christine Box. He was raised in Hart, where he graduated from high school in 1974. He later moved to Amarillo, where he worked in the truck driving business for more than 30 years. He then worked as a pharmaceutical courier for more than seven years. He married Mari Shaw, his "angel with skin," on Oct. 6, 2002, in Amarillo. Terry celebrated 29 years of sobriety this March and was influential in the lives of many people through Top of Texas AA, where he served on the "Old Timers Committee." He was known to be generous and giving and lived his life by the golden rule, "treat others the way you would like them to treat you, not the way they treat you," and as a hospice volunteer. He enjoyed traveling and riding his motorcycle in his spare time. Most of all, Terry loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and "Bop" to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a bother, Jimmy Box; and two sisters, LaDonna Lana and Bobbie Goins.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Summer Mitchell and husband Larry Gonzales of Borger and their children, Christian, Haylie, Peyton, Kathrun and Lauren; four sons, T.J. Box of Amarillo, Matt Baker and wife Liz of Amarillo and their children, Aubrey, Bailey and Carter Baker, Joey Baker of Dallas and Chase Reid of Amarillo; three sisters, Charlotte LeMaster of Tulia, Cathy Leibel and husband Tony of Hart and Carla Hochstein and husband Jimmy of Nazareth; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The family suggests memorial contributions be to Kindred at Home Hospice, 3232 Hobbs Road, Amarillo, TX 79109.
