Terry Allen Brown

Terry Allen Brown, 76, of Amarillo, passed away on February 27, 2023. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Pastor Rodger Johnson of Northside United Pentecostal Church officiating. Viewing will take place at 9:00 AM Friday prior to services in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.

Terry was born November 9, 1946 in Wheeler, Texas to Warren G. and Charline Brown, and grew up in Amarillo. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1964, and proudly served for his entire career, including in Vietnam and the Gulf War, retiring in 1993. He married Karen Higginbotham on April 19, 1980 in Apopka, Florida.

During his career, Terry served with distinction in the following commands: USS Springfield “CLG-7”; USS Little Rock “CLG-4”; Naval Ship Repair Facility, Subic Bay; USS Semmes (DDG-18); Naval School Command Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA; Naval Technical Training Center, Pensacola, FL; USS Roosevelt (CV-42); USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2); Commander, Southern Atlantic Staff; USS Dewey (DDG-45); USS Midway (CV-41); and ended with the Naval Training Systems Center, Orlando, FL. He earned the following decorations: Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medal.

After his retirement from the Navy, Terry went on to work for TDCJ for 15 years. Terry grew up in the UPC and was a longtime active member of Northside United Pentecostal Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren G. Brown.

Survivors include his wife Karen Brown; three sons, Tim Brown (Michelle) of Orlando, FL, Scott Brown (Brenda) of Port Richey, FL, and Jeff Brown (Ruth) of Canyon; his mother, Charline Brown of Amarillo; a sister, Sandra McLean of Amarillo; a brother, Ronnie Brown (Debbie) of Amarillo; and five grandchildren, Warren, Kayla, Heather, Hannah and Cameron.
