Thomas Lee Bunch, 78, a native of Amarillo, was born fifth of five children to Thompie Otis and Lula Belle Bunch on January 27, 1937. He lost his battle with numerous health issues on March 4, 2015. He lived in the Glenwood area attending Glenwood Elementary, Elizabeth Nixon Jr. High and Amarillo High School. Services will be conducted by Cox Funeral Home with Mark Phillips and Charlie Cox officiating at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western Monday March 9, at 2:00 p.m.. Internment at Llano Cemetery. Visitation will be at Cox Funeral home, 4180 Canyon Drive, Sunday, March 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Tom was a member of the Lake Tanglewood Community Church. Prior achievements and community service included Vocation Industrial Club Certificate of Award, volunteer participant in Emergency Corps of Randall County, and member of Lake Tanglewood Volunteer Fire Department.
Tom had worked at First Supply Company of Amarillo progressing from delivery to store manager. He was also employed by Motor Inn Supply and Fruehauf Trailers. He was a district manager for Hastings Manufacturing Company serving a large sales territory in the automotive business. Tom served as maintenance foreman at Lake Tanglewood Community. Later, he owned and operated Panhandle Fountain Coffee Company.
Tom was a very patriotic man enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He participated in the atomic test program Bee Shot, Teapot series, March 22, 1955 at Yucca Flats, NV. He later served in the Seabees, Reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 22.
Following retirement, he and his wife Patsy enjoyed traveling in a motor home to forty-nine of the fifty states and were members of Good Sams RV Club and the High Plains Chapter of Family Motor coach Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers T.O.Jr., Billy Frank , sisters, Clydie McCarty Casaus, and Bobbie Jo Handley.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia R (Patsy), daughter, Debbie Lynn Phillips and husband Mark, two granddaughters, Holly Mason, and Ashleigh Carney and husband Tanner, 3 great-grandchildren Kianna Mason, Brayden and Brody Carney all of Amarillo and numerous nieces and nephews.
