March 27th, 2026, Tommie Sue Summar stepped from this life into her forever life with Jesus. Sue, or as she was called by so many Mimi, spent 80 years of love, laughter, and living for her Precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday March 31, 2026 at Temple Baptist Church, 3208 S. Van Buren with a burial at 2:00 PM at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will be accepting friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday March 30, 2026 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Sue was the 6 th of 7 kids, born June 2nd, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas. Later the family moved to Canyon, Texas. She attended Grace Baptist Church where she met the two loves of her life, Jesus and Rickey. She told how she accepted Jesus as Savior when she was eighteen. Then when she was twenty-two, a tall, handsome guy walked into church and she was smitten.
They were married on October 20, 1967, at Bible Baptist Church in Slaton, Texas where Rickey’s father was the pastor and his mother played the piano. Later they welcomed three daughters, Carol, Andrea, and Tanya.
She loved reading the Bible and underlining every verse that meant something to her. It was determined that a Bible can weigh five more pounds if every verse is highlighted and underlined. She would have to buy new Bibles because the old one was too marked up and God was revealing new things about the same verses. And she loved teaching her girls, grandkids, kids at church the stories from the Bible. She taught Sunday School for years, generations actually. She taught in Vacation Bible Schools and even cut out 150 sheep for the kids. She promised never to cut out another one, but next year she would lovingly get her scissors back out and do it all over.
She loved! That pretty much sums up Tom, Aunt Tom, Sue, mama, Mimi, Mrs. Sue, Mrs. Summar, or whatever she was called. She loved, and was loved, still loved, and will always be loved.
Sue was proceeded in death by her parents, EA and Lousie Collie, three sisters, Erva Owens, Esther Daniel, and Mary Burns, and two brothers, Ernie and Charles Collie, and a grandson, Jayden Simpson.
Sue is survived by husband Rickey Summar, three daughters and their husbands, Carol Simpson (Terry), Andrea Dean (Jerry), and Tanya Bates (Jeremy), five grandchildren, Brandon Dean, Jordan Graham (David), JJ Bates (Kelley), Makenzie Varella (Stephanie), and Cara Dean (Gabe), one brother Eddy Collie (Virginia) and other family by birth, marriage, or because she hugged your neck and made you family. She also had many grand fur babies she spoiled at the dining table with whatever she “accidentally” dropped on the ground.
The family has asked that instead of flowers or plants that donations be made to the Buddy Walk which was one of her favorite days of the year. Please make donations to the Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild PO Box 20783 Amarillo, TX 79114; pdsg.org
