Tommy Joe Newman

Tommy Joe Newman, 81, of Amarillo, TX, died at home on June 16, 2026. Tommy was born on November 21, 1944 in Dallas, TX, to John and Norene Newman. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged on June 16, 1969. 

He worked in the bomb shop at Pantex for 44 years, retiring as a Facility Manager. He was baptized on June 21, 1998 at First Baptist Church of Amarillo, where he was an active member. 

He enjoyed arrowhead hunting, gun shows, classic cars, Elvis, sprint car races, WT basketball, reading, action movies, and was an avid collector of many things. 

Tommy loved his family. If his kids or grandkids were in it, he was there—every football & basketball game, track meet, one-act play, and church program. 

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverley; sister, Lana Grimes with husband George; three sons, Charlie with wife Larissa, Michael with wife Stacy, and JD with wife LorAnn; and six grandchildren, Bryson, Beau, Danlee, Dean, Fincher, and Laurel. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Norene Newman.

 A visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, from 5-7pm at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Amarillo at 2pm on Tuesday June 23, followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega, TX.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. 

Tommy will be remembered for his humility, stubbornness, and grace. He was a man of faith, devoted husband, loyal brother, and loving father & Dee-Daw. He will be missed but his legacy lives on, and one day he will rise again in glory.
